How printing has changed | Access 2 Knowledge

I have been doing some research on the printing industry and how we now print and consume information. Today for example to print business brochures at UPrinting you simply use one of their template and customize with your colors and logo and within a matter of minutes you can see and be ready to order the final print. It is amazing to see the acceleration in printing technology over the past 15 years as compared to the first 100 years. I sold copiers in the early 90′s and introduced the first commercial digital copier in both black and white and color around 1995. While the digital printing segment had been in existence this was the first time that the cost was no longer a barrier for small to medium sized businesses. I worked with large printing organizations that felt the quality and craftsmanship could never be matched by the digital copiers. The came along the digital four color presses that not only made distribution easier for large companies and newspapers, but helped to create the online community of companies like Uprinting that was now able to offer amazing four color quality with speed and at a lower cost.

I remember reading an article that Steve Jobs took a hand writing calligraphy class in college to learn how to write better and from that we got many of the fonts and styles that are now attributable to the Mac. It is simple discoveries like these that have helped to advance online printing through digital means and we will only continue to see new and improved processes. Because of the technology and ease of use companies like Uprinting.com will be a player in helping businesses tell their story through rich colorful brochures and sales aids. The fact that a marketing manager can create and order a new brochure based on a new indication or updated process in a matter of minutes has increased the power of online brochure printing. I can’t wait to blog about this topic again in early 2013 to share what is new and on the horizon for business brochure printing and it’s impact on business.
