We don’t often think of light as pollution for us but it is indeed one of man’s pollutions we have to live with. It’s different from waste pollution or noise pollution or any other pollution you may be more familiar with today. Light pollution is a serious problem and it only gets worse each day. New strip malls or neighborhoods being built with spotlights outside only adds to the problem. These lights keep us from seeing the stars at night and most people living in a major city today don’t get to see all the beautiful stars that do come out at night. Companies are looking for ways to reduce reliance on fossil fuels that will help lessen pollution, but there is a focus to help reduce the number of lights and the power consumption. Several power companies in our area are actually handing out energy saving lights to replace current bulbs to help reduce overall energy consumption.

A good way to help control the problem is limiting your outside lights at night. No need for porch lights or carport lights to stay on all night. Using some of the newer energy saver light bulbs to replace your lighting source you may be able to reduce your carbon footprint and actually provide a much cleaner form of light. We are even seeing businesses and homes use more environmentally friendly flameless candles to help provide light in their establishment. These candles have been around for a while but their popularity has increased over the past few years as consumers and businesses are looking for new and innovative ways to light their spaces. People with lights in the yard should only use them when needed and not leave them on for long periods of time. Individual households play a small part in our light pollution problems, but we have to start somewhere. Hopefully city leaders will take action and have less lightning for new businesses and force establish businesses to cut down on their outdoor lighting at night.

It is a lovely report about the frequent family issues. The greif can be essential oil staining with a husband that’s a technician, and Do-it-yourself fanatic.
